It’s party time at MCD: we are thrilled to announce the acquisition of hannah baer’s forthcoming book, The Life of the Party. It’s part instruction manual on how to throw a great party–structured over the life cycle of an event–and part ode to gathering (told through memoir, psychology, and cultural history). And most of all, it’s a book about how throwing parties can radically reconfigure our relationships to the world and to each other. It will probably make you want to throw a party, or at least will help you to not dread them (if that’s your thing).

The author of the seminal, cult memoir trans girl suicide museum and a clinical psychologist in New York, hannah is one of the most beloved and distinct cultural critics working today. Read her in n+1 on Issey Miyake and transitioning, in Jewish Currents about therapy, in Pioneer Works on loneliness, and in Artforum about raving and revolution. She is also one of the founding editors of the Los Angeles independent press Deluge Books, whose books you should definitely check out, and runs the Instagram page @malefragility.

The Life of the Party arrives in 2027.
